Senior Tax Accountant


Location: Chichester (hybrid — minimum 3 days per week in office)
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 per annum
Type: Full-time, Permanent

Role Overview


We are seeking a diligent and experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing tax team. The successful candidate will take lead responsibility for managing and delivering a broad range of tax services from compliance through to strategic tax planning. You will also contribute to helping drive continual improvement in our tax processes.


Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare and review a variety of tax returns, including corporate (company), partnership, trust, and individual returns as required.

  • Ensure compliance with UK tax laws and regulations; stay up to date with changes in tax legislation and advise on implications.

  • Provide tax planning advice and identify opportunities for tax efficiency and savings.

  • Manage relationships with clients (where applicable), external advisors, and tax authorities; handle communications and tax correspondence.

  • Supervise, mentor and review work of junior accountants or support staff.

  • Support or lead on tax audits, tax investigations, and inquiries by tax authorities.

  • Assist with corporate tax accounting, deferred tax considerations or other specialised tax issues (subject to business needs).

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and adoption of best practices in tax compliance and reporting.

Person Specification & Key Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.

  • Professional accounting/tax qualification preferred (e.g. ACCA, ACA, or equivalent) — or working towards such qualification.

  • Significant experience in UK tax compliance and corporate/other tax matters

  • Strong technical understanding of UK tax legislation, compliance requirements, and tax accounting practices.

  • Excellent Excel and MS Office skills; proficiency with accounting/tax software and systems (for example, practice management or tax-return software).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills — especially when handling complex or high-volume tax work.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain complex tax matters clearly to colleagues or clients.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines, as well as collaborate within a team.
